| WATER QUALITY.. Can you afford to take
it for granted ? Bottled Water. How Pure ? How Fresh ? Not only does a WATERSIMPLE purifier save you buying and carrying home bottled water, but it also gives you a continuous supply of clear, fresh, pure water, not only for drinking but also for making coffee and tea, cooking and preparing food. We are all aware of the mounting concern expressed in the media over the deterioration of the quality of the water supplied to our homes. As a direct result of long-term pollution, can we afford to ignore the fact that this precious resource is perhaps nowhere near as pure as we might imagine it to be ? On the face of it we could expect to blame the water utility companies if the quality of our drinking water is not up to standard. It should be remembered, however, that the water supplied to our homes is exactly the same as that supplied to industry. The same water that we drink is also used for cleaning the streets, chemicals processing, irrigating fields, fire fighting, flushing toilets and countless other requirements. When you realise that drinking and cooking accounts for less than 3% of all the water we use, it seems nonsensical that 100% of the water treated by the water companies should be fit for drinking. But this is the case. For the water supply companies, treating all this water becomes more and more difficult because of the vast quantities and types of pollutants introduced into the water by industry and agriculture. Many of these substances are known to be harmful to man. The effects of others are unknown-- scientists simply have not yet had the time to find out. The water companies do their best to remove these impurities, but even they would admit that it is an impossible task to completely remove all pollutants given the enormity of the problems and the huge financial resources required. Much water leaves the utilities and is then either polluted or leaked away in the distribution pipelines. Given the facts it is easy to see why sales of bottled water are increasing. More and more people have already taken the decision that they no longer wish to drink ordinary tap water. They would rather spend a fortune buying bottled water than trust the quality or taste of the water that they pay for to be piped to their homes. But few realised that standards for factory bottled water were lower than for ordinary tap water. A survey of 37 different brands of bottled water carried out by the US Environmental Standards Institute revealed that 24 did not fully comply with official standards for ordinary tap water. Many people will remember the times when bottled water has been removed from supermarket shelves because the manufacturers were concerned about quality. Fresh , is hardly a word that can be used to describe factory bottled water. How long has it been on the shelves and when was it bottled?. The cost of bottled water is high. How does the price of the factory bottled water add up? The water itself is a minor cost and many times less than the bottle containing it. The rest of the price you pay covers the processing, bottling, importation, distribution, television and press advertising, marketing and profit margins. However much you pay, it does not automatically mean that you are buying the best in quality. What is the environmental cost of bottled water? Some manufacturers supply water in glass bottles but most use plastic. Billions of empty plastic bottles, which are not bio-degradable, present a colossal wast disposal problem. Not -so-green bottles.....is this our gift to future generations? Not only does a WATERSIMPLE purifier save you buying and carrying home bottled water, but it also gives you a continuous supply of clear, fresh, pure water, not only for drinking but also for making coffee and tea, cooking and preparing food. |
